What is a SEUROBRIC?

The Seurobric is a building brick with a base of expanded polystyrene (EPS); i.e. a durable synthetic material.

*. The production of a SEUROBRIC takes place in three stages :

  1. Pre-forming of the EPS.
  2. EPS polymer, an oil derivative, contains a liquid with low boiling point (pentane). When heated by means of steam the polymer becomes soft and the pentane liquid expands allowing the granules to acquire 40 times their original volume.seuro3.jpg (6271 bytes)

  3. Intermediary stabilising
  4. During the cooling-off period of the steamed cells, water vapour and steam are released while oxygen is absorbed. This balance is responsible for the resulting physical and mechanical features of the product.

  5. After-steaming
  6. The granules are injected in a mould and the final model result from further steaming. The SEUROBRIC acquires its final form during the cooling process.

*.  The form of a SEUROBRIC

A SEUROBRIC is hollow. At the top and at the bottom the SEUROBRIC is provided with a double row of cubes of 2.25 cm. This patented stacking method ensures a waterproof and perfect fit. Each element is 675mm long, 245mm or 157.5mm wide and 25mm high. The wall thickness is of 40 or 45mm. Special shapes are available to construct round walls. Constructions can be therefore peoduced in a great many desings.

*. The execution of the worksseuro7.bmp (235190 bytes)

These blocks are stacked with expertise, filled with concrete and provided with the necessary ironwork. The SEUROBRIC is laid in stretcher bond. In the event of lintel execution, the reinforced concrete beam is made by shuttering the blocks and the concrete mass in wood. This procedure eliminates thermal bridges and moisture problems.

Power cables, drainage pipes,… can either be placed in the concrete (ensuring simultaneous insulation), or grooves can be cut in the wall to insert the required runs.

*. Technical specifications of EPS

Conclusion: EPS is a quality product that has already been used for a long time as an insulating material. Besides, the features mentioned are not corrupted by time; therefore EPS is extremely suitable for use in construction.
